CUSTOM DESIGN COLUMNS: HIGHLIGHT OF THE SHOPPING CENTER

The architect had vision to add an elevator and clock tower to the Highland Park Village shopping center that has unified architectural style. Developing intricate design details in the stone and matching the color and finish so that the new building would connect to the surrounding area that had been in existence for over 80 years.

The AAS project team developed the drawings for the project from templates without requiring detailed architectural plans. The templates were compared to the existing product and adjustments were made to achieve the precisely matching three dimensional design. The system to capture and communicate in-depth details using CAD drawings assisted the design process confirming the project feasibility in early stages of the project. The integrity of the details was made possible using CNC technology to fabricate the required molds. For high intricate design details in the column caps at the top, rubber molds were used.

The AAS team confirmed and communicated installation details for each stone piece used in this tower design. Installers got detailed settings plan with identification of each stone piece.

The clock tower looks as if it were part of the original design of the shopping center. The architectural columns accentuate the overall experience of the shopping center.

Three Product Material Options

Dry vibrant-tamp cast stone provides design flexibility to custom design column covers with complex design while also providing competitive structural properties.

Wet-pour precast concrete enable options to embed structural support for load bearing column applications.

Architectural GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) column wraps are only ¾” thick and yet have high strength to weight ratio, simplifying structural support requirements for higher elevation applications.

Project Specific Support: Custom Fabrication

Advanced Architectural Stone (AAS) has extensive track record for integrating columns with overall design for cladding applications, exterior stone veneer or façade applications, cornices and bandings, architectural trim around building entry ways/windows/doors, wall coping, etc. As required, design can be realized while combining different product materials as well while maintaining uniform/seamless design aesthetic.

The AAS team is able to collaborate with design team using SHOP drawings to confirm design feasibility and developing pre-engineered anchoring conditions for easy installation of the columns.

AAS helps contractors with columns covers and wraps for both commercial as well as residential applications.

Customers have flexibility to match any color with the control sample.

When required, designers have option to select column designs from an extensive range of in house molds inventory. This can help with faster turnaround times for stone concrete columns designs.

Use the support request form to ask about in-house inventory of architectural column covers, column wraps.

MODULAR COLUMNS: CUSTOM DESIGN FLEXIBILITY, FREEDOM

AAS project team works with architects, contractors and building owners in design and manufacturing of modular columns in variety of shapes and styles. AAS has a lot of experience with very large size columns as required for a project.

TRT HOLDINGS – PRECISE ENGINEERING AND CRAFTSMANSHIP FOR DESIGN

TRT Holdings Headquarters is a new 170,000 square ft, six-story Jeffersonian-style office building.  The project is one of several buildings located on the Old Parkland Campus at Dallas, Texas developed by Trammell Crow Holdings, one of the largest developers in the U.S.

  • The overriding design criterion of this building was to have the same style as all other buildings on the business campus.
  • Precast and cast stone was used exclusively as the material at all entries, the exterior connecting porches, hallways and veneer panels at the first floor of the building.
  • Pediments, lintels, sills, water tables, columns and roof coping comprised the remainder of the precast or cast stone on the project.
  • All entrances to the building have beautiful classical Tuscan columns. The Tuscan columns were repeated at a covered portico connecting the building to a restaurant as well.  The columns were connected with a deeply profiled trim. The precast portico runs a length of over 50 feet.

Process for Design

  • All pieces, of the same profile, were scaled to varying sizes due to different size windows, doors, entryways and breezeways around the structure.   Precise mold making ability of AAS enabled the required precision over wide range of sizes.
  • There were 7712 pieces of precast and cast stone on the project. The production was carried out using 153 different molds.  The mix design was the company’s standard formula with adjustment to a special color used throughout the campus.
  • Manufacturing was carried out using company’s computer-driven batch plant and computer driven liquid color system.  The automated systems provide the quality control to assure consistency of color and texture.

The owner of the Old Park Land campus, with all five of their architects visited AAS production facility throughout the project life cycle to make sure the color, texture, and scale of the precast and cast stone met the overall design intent of the campus.
